Week 2 Blog
When it comes to the material this week, I really liked the google sheets translate and how easy it is to use. I personally do use a lot of google translate, I work for a Dual-Language program, The only thing I get very weary about is that Google likes to do a literal translation of the words and not words that will actually make sense in the language. For instance when you put "Open House" for a school it translates to "Casa Abrieta"which literally means an opened house. I can see Google sheets being able to help older students. When it comes to the voice commands, I can see this benefiting my students a lot. A lot of my students have problems with vocabulary, many times they know what they want to say but in spanish, I feel that the programs will be able to understand my students in the language that they choose. My daughter has actually used the voice command to help her translate a paper into spanish. She is 9 years old and she spoke into the mic while google translated. Of course I was near to help her with the structure of her sentences. The voice command can also help my kids with the pronunciation of many words. I know my students use Raz-Kids and they could highlight a word online and it will tell the kids the word. The one site that jumped out at me was Class Dojo. Mainly because it is an app that we use in school. I personally love it because we are able to communicate with parents and we can use it as a classroom management. Since you are allowed to use either points or dojo dollars, the students are wanting to behave so they may earn either one. The students in my classroom will receive a Dojo Dollar if they behave and at the end of the week, they would be able to buy from the classroom store, dress down day, sit in the teacher’s chair, eat with the teacher, and other various prizes that they are able to buy.
